Gabriel had barely even wanted to go to school. He wanted to stay home and practice his telekinesis more. He hadn't mastered it yet, after all, and that was much more exciting than anything that was bound to happen at school. But he knew he had to go in order to not let his mother know anything was up. The last thing he wanted to do right now was make her suspicious. Not when they were going to be leaving soon anyways.
Which was why he was sitting in chemistry class now, listening to the instructions from his teacher over the experiment they were conducting. It wasn't really enjoyable, working with someone who hated his guts, but he didn't see any reason to go out of his way to switch partners. It would be a hassle. So he dealt with Jane and her death glares and just focused on his work.
But apparently, he was focusing a little too hard at one point, because the glass test tube Jane was holding over the flames shattered from his telekinesis and the liquid inside caused the flames to shoot up, lighting her hair on fire.
"Oh my god, what happened, my hair, my hair, someone get something for my hair," She screeched in a voice that could only be described as shrill. But before anyone could grab anything, the smoke reached the smoke detector, causing the fire alarm and sprinklers to go off, soaking everyone.
Jane wasn't hurt, luckily, but about half of her hair was burnt off now, and she'd probably have to cut the rest off to match. Gabriel was trying his best not to laugh as the teacher ushured them outside for regular fire procedures.

Date: 2009-11-24 05:47 am (UTC)The fire alarm was loud and awful, and Elle figured it was just a drill, so she lagged behind to other students as they walked outside, smiling sarcastically every time Sandy and her ring of idiots looked back to glare and laugh shrilly at her. With everything that had occurred--her Daddy dying, Gabriel's first kill--Elle had almost forgotten how the bitch had humiliated her at the dance.
It seemed centuries ago, but apparently Sandy was still hung up over getting her hair pulled. Not to mention Jeremy kept giving her weird, assessing looks. She hoped the dumb jock wasn't starting to suspect she paralyzed him or something... She had been touching him when it happened.
But it was no matter, truthfully, because as she exited the doors, neither Jeremy nor Sandy were paying attention to her anymore. No, all the pointed fingers, laughter, and whispers had been directed to some sobbing girl in Mr. Banner's chemistry class.
And the sobbing girl wasn't just anyone. It was Jane. And her ugly, disgusting, ratty hair was singed right off. She was left resembling some rat who'd gotten caught in an electrical socket.
Elle's brightened eyes lifted, immediately looking and zeroing in on Gabriel, her lips slowly curling up with a cruel, amused grin. With a renewed vigor, she skipped over (no one was obeying the rules and staying in their class groups anyway), passing Jane crying into some other frumpy girl's shoulder. "Nice haircut, Jane," she said pleasantly, and then walked straight into Gabriel, throwing her arms around his neck with a giggle.

Everyone else just seemed to think it was some sort of freak accident. Or that Jane was just a huge klutz. Or both, depending.

"Good job," she murmured back with a smirk. She meant it.

He was about to say something else as Mr. Banner approached them, clearing his throat. "Gabriel. You're Jane's partner, that's correct, yes?"
He looked up at the teacher in annoyance. He wanted to just focus on Elle. But he nodded anyways. "I am."
"Did you see what it happened."
He thought for a moment before coming up with an answers. "She was being very uncareful, her hand was shaking and she didn't have a good grasp on the test tube. I tried to warn her about holding it like that, but she just wouldn't listen to me."

Date: 2009-11-25 03:47 am (UTC)For some reason the reality of what was to come only hit her then, when it was just them pressed so tight and surrounded by the extension of their mundane lives. They were going to run away together. Soon, by the end of the week. She clutched at him harder, her teeth grazing his skin. It was just going to be like this--just them--forever. She bit down breathlessly, desperately. Maybe she should be more scared, or sorry, but she wasn't, not like before.
There was so much to look forward to. So much more than just her dumb daddy and the Company. So much more. And they were going to take it.
