Gabriel had barely even wanted to go to school. He wanted to stay home and practice his telekinesis more. He hadn't mastered it yet, after all, and that was much more exciting than anything that was bound to happen at school. But he knew he had to go in order to not let his mother know anything was up. The last thing he wanted to do right now was make her suspicious. Not when they were going to be leaving soon anyways.

Which was why he was sitting in chemistry class now, listening to the instructions from his teacher over the experiment they were conducting. It wasn't really enjoyable, working with someone who hated his guts, but he didn't see any reason to go out of his way to switch partners. It would be a hassle. So he dealt with Jane and her death glares and just focused on his work.

But apparently, he was focusing a little too hard at one point, because the glass test tube Jane was holding over the flames shattered from his telekinesis and the liquid inside caused the flames to shoot up, lighting her hair on fire.

"Oh my god, what happened, my hair, my hair, someone get something for my hair," She screeched in a voice that could only be described as shrill. But before anyone could grab anything, the smoke reached the smoke detector, causing the fire alarm and sprinklers to go off, soaking everyone.

Jane wasn't hurt, luckily, but about half of her hair was burnt off now, and she'd probably have to cut the rest off to match. Gabriel was trying his best not to laugh as the teacher ushured them outside for regular fire procedures.

She sobered further at his fallen expression and frowned, pulling away from him. She hated it when he wasn't happy. "It's okay. Maybe his laptop is here, too," she said with a reassuring smile, and walked over to pull out the littered briefcase she knew he slid under his bed.

Sometimes he kept it at work, but judging by the case's weight, Gabriel might be in luck. Quickly, she spun in the code that Daddy never knew she'd figured out, and opened it on the bed.

There it was, his small little notebook. She looked towards Gabriel for approval, smirking victoriously.

He smiled softly, looking down at the laptop as she popped open the briefcase. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, nuzzling her neck from behind. "We'll take it with us, then."

After all, they didn't want to waste time trying to get the information now, while they were still inside the house. She was right before, there just wasn't time to waste like that.

She grinned, humming out a content sigh and tipping her head to the side, instinctively, for him. Then she shut the briefcase with a click and spun around to face him, kissing him once more, nipping at his smiling lip with a soft, wanting purr and a caught breath. It seemed with every passing moment he was acting more and more like himself, and Elle wasn't going to question it, not now. "Okay, let's go," she whispered.

It was surprisingly easy to compartmentalize his grief, to push it away and be able to function, easier then he would have expected it to be. He couldn't quite explain it, but he wasn't going to question it. "Yes, lets."

She smiled again, balanced up on her toes to kiss his cheek and hand him the briefcase. She felt a little lighter now, even if there was still so much darkness festering over them from what had happened. For now, Elle found it easy to turn a blind eye. She scooped up her bag and headed downstairs, peeking out the doorway first. It looked clear, and she stepped out, electricity at her fingertips, just in case.

Gabriel clutched the briefcase in his hands as he followed Elle out the door. So far so good. Maybe no one had discovered or linked them to the bodies yet. "Do you know how to drive or should I drive?" He asked as they approached the car.

"You should drive," she said with a hesitant smile, clutching the bags and looking up and down the street cautiously. "I don't have the keys, but you have telekinesis." Maybe it was a little soon to ask so much of his powers, but desperate times and all.

"Couldn't you just jump start it with your electricity?" He teased with a small smirk on his lips. Nornally, he would be excited to have the chance to test the limits of his power, but as it was, he was a little bit nervous. What if he couldn't do it?

She shrugged a little, reached to caress the back of his hand fleetingly, tickling him with a playful hum of energy. "Maybe," she answered, returning his smile. "But I can't unlock it," she whispered conspiratorially.

"I guess you can't," He murmured back, laughing softly. The tickle of electricity was almost comforting, like she was back to herself again. It was nice. He concentrated as hard as he could and twisted his hand, managing to unlock the doors.

She breathed a grateful sigh at the click, pausing to kiss his cheek again with a small spark. She felt like she just needed to keep touching him--not only, now, for something solid to ground her, but for comfort, for a reminder that they were still there, together. Then she opened the door, throwing her bag in the backseat and climbing across the console to the other side, leaving the door ajar for him.

He was grateful for the little touches and sparks. It helped to keep his thoughts away from the dark place he had been stuck in earlier. Which made it much easier for him function and do what he had to. He climbed into the car next to her, shutting the door. He clicked his seat belt and then twisted his hand a few times, trying to use his telekinesis to start the car. It stalled a few times, and then finally, he got it going.

She was glad when he did, because Elle was afraid she might fry the engine if she tried. "There," she said, and scooted over to rest her head on his shoulder, claiming one of his arms to wrap around. "We're already gone," she said, with a only a minute waver in her voice.

"We are," He nodded a little numbly as he pulled out of the driveway. It was comforting to feel her warmth against him, at the very least. "Just us against the world." What they had kept talking about, right? So why did it seem so scary, now?
