It was pretty late at night by the time they finally reached the Canadian border. As he drove closer to the border he couldn't help but feel a little nervous. They'd only ask a few questions, right? It wasn't likely that they would have pictures of them or anything, any way of knowing that they were trying to run from the law, right?

Right.

He was worrying over nothing, he was pretty sure of it. So far, everything had been going well. Sure, it had taken them a little longer than expected to get here, mostly because they kept stopping to fool around and the like, but they had managed to get here, new car and all. Once they got through they could find a place to stay for the night and figure out the rest in the morning, right?

Right.

Still, one of his hands left the wheel and searched for her hand, fingers intertwining with one another. Being able to hold her hand was a comfort, at the very least.

"Hey," He murmured softly, leaning over to press a soft kiss against her forehead. "Did you sleep well?"

She smiled in response, warming to him at the affectionate touch. Eagerly, she reached to run her hands down his slick chest, just once, because she couldn't help herself. "Yes," she replied, sitting up. "You?"

"I slept pretty well," He replied with a smile of his own. And it was true. He had slept rather peacefully, despite everything that happened the day before, despite what he had done the day before.

"Good," she replied, happy to hear that. She didn't want to question how well he was taking this, all things considered. Instead she got up, her bare skin shivering and little goosebumps raising on her skin from the cold as she headed to the bathroom.

Maybe it was still sinking in, and maybe he had been too exhausted for it to really hit him yet, but he was dealing with things surprisingly well, and for now, he wasn't questioning it. Instead, he finished drying off before heading to the bag with their clothes in it.

He looked over the clothes they had gotten from her father. Mostly suits and button down shirts and the like. He preferred his sweater vests, but this would have to do.

Elle's shower was relatively quick, too. In addition to the water just being overall not her favorite thing in the world, she was still tired, and she just wanted to get out and see Gabriel. They needed to discuss things--like what to do now, where to go, how they could make money.

She sighed under the spray. This was the reality that lodged something awful in her throat, made her feel lost and confused. Despite all her complaints, Elle realized she'd always had a home. But she was sure they would be fine--like he'd said yesterday, it was just them now. Them against the world. Gabriel could be her home, right? They'd take care of each other, now.

She walked out of the bathroom not ten minutes later, a towel wrapped around her body and the other drying her hair.

Despite her serious train of thought, she giggled, her eyes widening at Gabriel all but swimming in one of her dad's shirts. That was a little odd. She'd rather have no reminders of her father, and least of all on Gabriel. "Maybe we should buy you some clothes," she suggested.

"I told you his wasn't going to fit me," He murmured, looking down with an annoyed sigh. He'd have to put his own pants back on, even if they were dirty. Bob's pants weren't going to fit him. He felt weird wearing her father's clothing anyways.

Of course, it's not like they could have gone back to his place to pick up clothes yesterday. Doing so would have been too risky. After all, that would have been the first place the police would have went to look for him. It was still annoying though.

"It's okay," she told him with a smile, wringing her hair a little more and draping it over a chair. She wrapped her arms around him, balancing up on her tiptoes to playfully peck his chin. "We'll buy all the sweater vests you want."

"Probably best if we don't," He said thoughtfully, returning the kiss. "Those sweater vests can be kind of pricey." And they needed all the money they could save, honestly.

"And so fashionable," she teased, nuzzling her nose against his. He was right; of course, they shouldn't... but they both needed more clothes.

"You liked them enough to steal some from my closet," He teased back. "But just some pants and shirts that would fit would be fine."

"Ew," she sneered. "I wouldn't wear a sweater vest," she said disdainfully, pulling back and shooting him an angry pout; she meant business about this. As if. "I wear your sweaters," she corrected with a smile, kissing his nose with a lovable shock. "Big difference."

He wrinkled his nose at the little shock. "They're practically the same as the vests," He argued back with a playful smile.

"Are not!" she countered with a scoff. "They have no sleeves. It's like saying, 'I'm cold, but just right here'." She leaned back, gesturing to her torso with a know-it-all smile.

"You never seemed to mind much in the past," He laughed a little. "If you minded so much, you would have tried to get me to wear them less or something."

She held back a bright smile, but she couldn't muffle the shining in her eyes as she reached to fuss over his already perfectly creased collar. So what if she did like his sweater vests, despite how dorky they were? Or maybe because they were so dorky... or maybe just because they were on him.

"Why would I do that?" she said with a shrug. "They keep away all the other girls."

"So that's your plan," He mused playfully, leaning down to nip at her lower lip. "To keep me nerdy looking so none of the other girls try to steal me away. Cunning."

"I'm a smart cookie," she smiled, rubbing up and down his arms and balancing her hips into his. She pouted a little, looking up into his dark, dancing eyes through lowered lashes. "How else am I going to keep you? You're like Superman under those glasses."

"So if I take off my glasses and style my hair a little differently, you think no one will recognize me?" He asked with a grin.

"I'd recognize you," she said stubbornly, reaching to muss and move his damp hair around curiously.

"Superman's girlfriend never did," He mused with a shrug. "Lois Lane was pretty dense for a reporter, though."

"Well, I'm not just some damsel in distress anyway," she said, her voice full of pride.

"It's true," He mused with a dorky smile. "You're more of a Wonder Woman than a Lois Lane."

Elle couldn't help it; she laughed lightly, tickling gently behind his ears and sighing closer against him. "You're such a dork," she whispered affectionately.

"You love it," He whispered back, brushing his lips playfully against hers.
