She stared at him, trying to reach past her rage. The calculation and uncertainty in his eyes twisted her stomach painfully, and she knew then that she needed to calm down, if only for him.
"I'm sorry," she said hollowly, although her fingers still dug into his neck. Her small body trembled, and she forced her eyes to his chest. She could hardly breathe she was so worked up, and she wasn't even sure what she was apologizing for. For freaking him out? For what she wanted to do--even though she hadn't said the words?
She wasn't so heartless to know the pain she was so willing to inflict on him. She'd inflicted it on herself, but it seemed like such a small price to pay. An eye for an eye. They'd be even.
